Ukrainian law enforcement has announced suspicion of Russian General Oleg Makarevich. He ordered the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station a year ago, according to the Security Service of Ukraine.
What is known about the general
Law enforcement has gathered evidence against Lieutenant General Oleg Makarevich, the commander of the Dnepr military group of the Russian Armed Forces.

According to the case materials, this military commander gave orders to sabotage the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station on the night of June 5-6, 2023.
Consequences of the sabotage
As a result of this crime, critical infrastructure objects were completely destroyed, leading to the death of at least 35 people, the flooding of 46 settlements in the Kherson region, and the inundation of 20 settlements in the Mykolaiv region.
"Moreover, due to the dam sabotage, the water supply to the Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as temporarily occupied Crimea, was partially disrupted," the security service writes.
This also posed a threat to the technical maintenance of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, specifically disrupting the cooling system of the nuclear station.
What sentence awaits the general
Oleg Makarevich has been informed of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional homicide committed by a premeditated group.
He faces life imprisonment.
Sabotage at Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station
A year ago, Russian forces blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, leading to a man-made catastrophe. The city of Kherson was partially flooded.
The CEO of Ukrhydroenergo, Ihor Syrota, stated that in September 2022, Ukraine knew that Russia planned to mine and blow up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station. However, at that time, no one thought that the Russia would completely destroy the entire station.
