We Just Found Out Darius Rucker Has a Second Job [Exclusive]

Darius Rucker

Darius Rucker has had a music career that most musicians would clamor for. He was the front man for Hootie and the Blowfish, who sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, and Rucker has had much success as a solo artist, with four No. 1 albums in country music. But as it turns out, he also has a pretty prominent second job.

Why Does Darius Rucker Have a Second Job?

In speaking to Rucker on Taste of Country Nights, we started chatting about his love for sports and his alma mater, University of South Carolina. I told him I wished they would hire him to coach something.

That’s when he revealed what his side hustle is.

The “Wagon Wheel” singer said,

I’m actually the assistant coach of the women’s golf team.

Rucker chuckled, so I wasn’t sure if he was being for real. Then, he doubled down on it: “I am, I am. I really am, actually.”

Why Would Darius Rucker Be Working as a Golf Coach?

The key thing to look at here is that he doesn’t need to pick up a second job; he chose to because it’s a passion project for him. Rucker is known in country music circles as one of the best golfers that most country artists aspire to beat one day.

Rucker also hosts the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Golf Tournament each year, where he performs a special concert for everyone in attendance.

According to LongCoveClub.com, The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate made its Golf Channel debut in 2022, marking the first (and remains the only) all-women’s regular season collegiate golf event.

We did the research for you and confirmed with the school that Rucker is indeed an honorary women’s assistant golf coach at the University of South Carolina, and he’s very involved with the program.
