How Celtic duo Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda performed as Japan make World Cup qualifier progress

Celtic duo Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda were in action for Japan earlier today as they recorded a 5-0 victory over Myanmar in FIFA World Cup Asian qualification.

Keito Nakamura’s double, alongside strikes from Ritsu Doan and another brace by Koki Ogawa, have put the Samurai Blue eight points ahead of second-place Syria in the Second Round Group B phase.

Now, Hajime Moriyasu’s side will turn their attention to facing Syria next Tuesday as they continue to make progress on the international stage.

In light of this 67 Hail Hail take a look at how Hatate and Maeda got on as Japan thrashed Myanmar in a dominant display.

Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda’s contribution vs Myanmar

Hatate started at the Thuwunna Stadium, playing 45 minutes before being withdrawn at half-time. Per Fotmob, the 26-year-old completed 28 of his 33 attempted passes (85%), took on two shots, with one on target and one blocked, alongside threading four balls into the final third.

From a defensive standpoint, he was also efficient, completing five defensive actions, one recovery and winning three duels ahead of being substituted.

In the case of Maeda, he was introduced into the fold by Moriyasu with 28 minutes remaining, and went on to make an impressive impact during his cameo.

Earning a match rating of 7/10, the former Yokohama F. Marinos man produced a 100% successful dribble rate (3/3), created one chance, took on a solitary shot that hit the target, and found his intended target with seven of his eight passes (88%).

In typical fashion, Maeda worked back to help close down the opposition, coming out on top in five duels, coupled with putting up four defensive actions, one clearance, a headed clearance, recording one recovery and being fouled twice.

Both men showed themselves well away to Myanmar. Hopefully, they can thrive over the rest of the international break ahead of Celtic’s return for pre-season next month.
