Report: £10m Mikel Arteta signing is up for sale again only a year after leaving Arsenal

Having only left Arsenal at the end of last summer, one Mikel Arteta signing has already been made available for transfer by his new club.

Over the past two seasons or so, Arteta and Edu have overseen a real improvement in Arsenal’s recruitment.

The short-term nature of the Unai Emery era has been left in the past, and thanks to the benefits that has created on the pitch, the Gunners are now able to attract world class players again.

Last summer was the flagship window in that respect, beating Manchester City to Declan Rice, and signing Kai Havertz amid interest from Real Madrid.

It was a clear signal that Arsenal were ‘back’ and in truth, Arteta’s side were unfortunate not to celebrate that business with a league title.

That being said, it’s not just Arsenal’s incoming transfers that are scrutinised, with many believing that the club doesn’t always achieve the best deals for those departing.

Granit Xhaka’s exit was perhaps an example of that, let go for a fairly moderate fee whilst still in his prime years.

Forest now trying to sell Matt Turner 12 months after buying him from Arsenal

Whilst Xhaka’s departure and price will continue to cause debate among Arsenal fans, many were happy to accept Matt Turner’s farewell last summer.

The 29-year-old United States international failed to sufficiently push Aaron Ramsdale whilst in north London, and was surplus to requirements when David Raya was signed.

And remarkably, just 12 months after being sold by Arsenal for £10m – a profit for the club, Turner could be on the move again.

Having moved to Nottingham Forest with the chance to become the side’s number one, Turner didn’t quite do enough.

The underwhelming moments he suffered in an Arsenal shirt continued, and Forest ended up recruiting two more keepers before the season ended: Odi Vlachodimos and Matz Sels.

And according to a round-up on Forest’s transfers by The Athletic, both Turner and Vlachodimos are now free to leave.

There is interest from the MLS in Turner, although the costs associated with any move could scupper those advances.

Therefore, when you consider that Arsenal are often criticised for not recouping befitting fees for their departing players, Turner’s £10m sale must be considered a win.

Of course, Arsenal could undergo a similar goalkeeper change this summer, with Aaron Ramsdale growing understandably restless as a number two.

But amid interest from other Premier League clubs, Arsenal have set a firm asking price for Ramsdale.
