Israeli forces killed three Palestinians during a raid in Jenin city on Thursday, the Palestinian health ministry said in the occupied West Bank, as violent incursions continue to intensify in the occupied territory.
The three Palestinians were identified as 24-year-old Uday Ayman Marei, Ibrahim Taher Muhammad al-Saadi, 21, and 17-year-old Issa Nafez Jallad, the Palestinian news agency Wafa said, citing the director of Jenin’s government hospital.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said another 15 people had been wounded in the raid. At least five who were shot with live bullets and two who suffered shrapnel wounds.
The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, said in a statement that its fighters were engaged in "violent clashes" near the Jenin refugee camp.
Israeli military tanks belonging to special forces destroyed stands belonging to local vendors and shot bullets towards the main electrical transformer in the camp, which resulted in a power outage, Wafa said.
The Israeli army claimed it had conducted "counterterrorism activity" around Jenin.
Its forces "eliminated" militants and arrested "a wanted individual suspected of terrorist activities", it said in a statement.
Incursions in Jenin and the West Bank have intensified significantly since the start of the war in Gaza, and under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's extreme right-wing leadership, after coming into power in late 2022.
At least 530 Palestinians have been killed in the territory by Israeli troops or settlers since the Gaza war broke out, according to Palestinian officials.
The Gaza Strip has been gripped by nearly eight months of war, where Israeli troops have has killed at least 36,654 people, mostly women and children.
Israel's military onslaught has been described as a genocide by several world leaders, activists and right groups.
