Kentucky football fans are knee-deep into a busy recruiting season. Following three camps and before the official visits kick off this weekend, let’s take a closer look at some intriguing developments on the recruiting front for the Wildcats.
A Canceled Decision Date?
The joys of football recruiting. Dawayne Galloway revealed on Thursday that he will announce his decision on Friday, July 5. Not long after sharing that news, he deleted the Tweet. Why? Excellent question.
Galloway is a top 200 cornerback from Columbus, albeit one without an Ohio State scholarship offer. That’s because the Buckeyes already have a pair of commitments from five-star cornerbacks. Even though they appear to be fine, I’m sure the Ohio State coaching staff was intrigued when he posted 40 times of 4.44 and 4.35 at a camp this week. They may want Galloway as insurance if one of those five-stars reconsiders and that can’t happen if he’s committing on the Fourth of July.
Ultimately, Galloway will probably end up announcing during the holiday weekend regardless of when he posts about the decision on social media. This month he is officially visiting (in order) Purdue, Syracuse, Kentucky, and Penn State.
Nebraska Enters the Mix for Noah King
When Galloway travels to Lexington on June 18, he’ll be joined by Noah King, the three-star talent from Cincinnati who picked up a UK offer on Sunday after posting an impressive 40-yard dash time. The two appear to be close. King’s time opened the eyes of Nebraska’s coaching staff, who offered King a scholarship on Thursday. They will not be the last ones to follow Kentucky’s lead.
Kentucky Target Doesn’t Leave Ohio State with an Offer
Many prospects attend camps to train in person with coaches and prove they are worth a scholarship offer. We’ve focused quite a bit this week on who Kentucky has offered following camp, but what’s happening elsewhere might matter more to Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class.
Coming off an ACL injury, three-star offensive tackle Jayden Clark worked out at Ohio State on Wednesday and he did not leave with a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes. He’s scheduled to officially visit Kentucky on June 14. There’s another similar player who may end up camping for an offer, tight end Brody Lennon. Keeping the Buckeyes at bay opens a path for the Cats to add to the 2025 recruiting class.
Kentucky Baseball Commit Gains Recruiting Steam
Kentucky baseball commit Evan Hampton was outstanding during a performance at Kentucky’s camp on Monday, earning a scholarship offer from Vince Marrow not long after he ran a 4.42. Once again, others are following Kentucky’s lead.
Hampton camped at Louisville and left with an offer. A day later a former Louisville running back, Kolby Smith, offered Hampton a football scholarship at Arkansas. The two-sport star is blowing up this summer.
Cats are Finalists for Top 200 Tight End
Last year the Wildcats secured a commitment from Brunswick LB Devin Smith. Now they’re working on his high school teammate, Heze Kent.
You don’t typically see tight ends ranked in the top 200, especially as underclassmen. Kent is the exception to that norm. The 6-foot-6, 245-pounder from the class of 2026 is already one of the most impressive athletes in America. You can tell by looking at his list of finalists. Of course, Kentucky is among that esteemed company.
