Daniel Suárez has nothing but great things to say about Stewart-Haas Racing as the team shuts down at the end of the season. The 32-year-old driver spoke to Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports to share his reaction to Stewart-Haas coming to an end.

“It’s always sad when you see a big organization go down that quickly,” Suárez said. “I wasn’t there for a long time, I was only there for a year. But I’ve been in the racing industry for over 10 years. I have gotten to know many people, and I have received a lot of calls and a lot of texts from all friends in Stewart-Haas that are looking for different opportunities.

“I feel like my position is to try to help as much as I can because they are great people No. 1, and No. 2 because they want to continue to stay in the NASCAR world, and I feel like that’s something very important. Stewart-Haas, I don’t have any hard feelings with them. They gave me an opportunity very very late in the game when Joe Gibbs told me I wasn’t going to be part of the plans. That was in October, so they grabbed me very very late. And for that, I will be forever thankful to Stewart-Haas for that one year with them.

Suárez drove for Stewart-Haas in 2019 and recorded three top-five finishes while earning 17th place in the Cup Series Standings. He went on to drive for Gaunt Brothers Racing in 2020 before joining his current team, Trackhouse Racing in 2021.

Why Stewart-Haas is closing at the end of the year

The move to close Stewart-Haas was surprising as it saw a lot of success since Tony Stewart joined the team as a co-owner in 2009. Stewart and Gene Haas announced the news last week and explained why the run will end.

“We have made the difficult decision to close Stewart-Haas Racing at the conclusion of the 2024 season,” Stewart and Haas said. “It is a decision that did not come easily, nor was it made quickly. Racing is a labor-intensive, humbling sport. It requires unwavering commitment and vast resources, with a 365-day mindset to be better than everyone else. It’s part of what makes success so rewarding.

“But the commitment needed to extract maximum performance while providing sustainability is incredibly demanding, and we’ve reached a point in our respective personal and business lives where it’s time to pass the torch. We’re proud of all the wins and championships we’ve earned since joining together in 2009, but even more special is the culture we built and the friendships we forged as we committed to a common cause — winning races and collecting trophies.”
