Corey LaJoie and Ryan Flores took a closer look at the wreck that happened at Gateway on Sunday between Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch. On the Stacking Pennies podcast, Flores, a pit crew member for Ryan Blaney, said that Busch was at fault for the wreck.

“Kyle Busch crowds Kyle Larson into the corner and it just swapped ends ,” Flores said. “I don’t know if there’s stuff that happened previously like a lap or two before this. …But if he’s mad about that, then I’m confused because Kyle Busch was just like ‘well I guess he needed a stage point.’ …Just off of that from what I’m seeing there, I’m putting that all on [Busch].”

LaJoie agreed with Flores, saying Busch “pulls down two lanes into the corner.” While also adding that he’s sure the radio transmission from Busch’s was “jolly.”

The wreck happened on Turn 2 during the final lap of the second stage. Larson and Busch were running in the top 10 before the wreck, and once the crash happened, NASCAR announced Busch was finished for the day, suffering his first DNF of the Cup Series season.

What Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch said about the wreck

“It looked like he got loose, I guess, down the front straightaway into Turn 1,” Busch told reporters after the race. “He was on older tires and trying to get us for a spot. Not sure what that single point was really gonna mean for him, but certainly hurt us a lot because (it) took that point away as well as the others that we’d get for the stage and then also the rest of the day. So very frustrating.

“We can’t afford days like that,” Busch added. “The Rebel Camaro wasn’t what it was last year, but it was a top-10 car, and we were gonna finish there. But (now) we’re not going to finish at all.”

Larson, who missed the Coca-Cola 600 last week, was allowed to continue and finished 10th. “We were coming to the end of that stage, and I was a little bit better than him,” Larson told reporters post-race. “Left (Turn) 4 to side-draft him and barely touched his quarter panel. I don’t know. I’m guessing it ticked him off, and he squeezed into me. I honestly thought I had a flat (tire) when I went into 1 because it just turned around backwards, but I guess he just must’ve took the air off of me and just spun.”
