England vs Iceland: Preview, predictions and lineups

By James Cormack

England welcome Iceland to Wembley Stadium on Friday night in their final game before the start of Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate's side struggled to move through the gears on Tyneside on Monday but an improved second-half performance aided by the efficient displays of substitutes Adam Wharton and Jack Grealish saw England run out 3-0 victors against a stubborn Bosnia and Herzegovina side.

The Three Lions' preparations for the Euros will continue after Friday's game, but this will be their last fixture before they take on Serbia on 16 June. The final deadline for Southgate to submit his 26-player squad also happens to be Friday.

England's footballing history with Iceland is defined by their infamous last-16 duel at Euro 2016 when the minnows prevailed in what was the bleakest night in the Three Lions' modern history.

England have since beaten Iceland twice in the UEFA Nations League, with Friday's duel being their first meeting in four years.

Here's 90min's preview of Friday's friendly at Wembley.

England vs Iceland score prediction

England were beaten for the first time in 21 games at Wembley in March, although Iceland are highly unlikely to pose the threat of Brazil on Friday.

These are fixtures the Three Lions typically saunter in. They've made a habit of brushing past inferior opponents on home soil and, given there are players vying for their spots in Southgate's 26-player squad, expect the hosts to be extra competitive in this one.

England should coast to a comfortable victory ahead of Euro 2024.

Prediction: England 4-0 Iceland
