Baseball: Locked-in Kikuchi snaps winless streak against Orioles

Yusei Kikuchi threw six innings of one-run ball to snap a seven-start winless streak as the Toronto Blue Jays downed the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 on Thursday.

The Japanese lefty held the Orioles scoreless through his first five innings, fanning six and allowing four hits and a walk on the way to his first win since April 22.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. put Toronto in the driver's seat with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third at Toronto's Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays led 6-1 after six innings and hung on despite a shaky performance from their bullpen.

"I had my fastball working and was locating it well, which helped me get ahead in the count," said Kikuchi (3-5). "I was able to use my changeup pretty effectively. I came in determined to win today."

At Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park, Seiya Suzuki hit a two-run home run and went 2-for-4 for the Chicago Cubs in their 8-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

Batting second in the lineup as designated hitter, Suzuki gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when he sent Hunter Greene's 1-0 slider over left field for his seventh home run of the season.
