Volunteers at the Norfolk Hospice Tapping House in Hillington thanked for hard work at annual ceremony

Hospice volunteers were described as “intrinsic” when they were thanked for their hard work during an annual ceremony.

The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House held its annual event at Lynn Town Hall where helpers who give up their free time were celebrated.

The celebrations were held during National Volunteers Week.

Volunteers at Tapping House help support 4,500 patients annually in a number of ways from working in one of the hospice’s charity shops to driving patients to and from the hospice.

Ward volunteers also offer a welcoming and caring environment for patients and visitors and volunteers also hold and organise a number of fundraising events.

The Hospice welcomes volunteers and has a dedicated support team to ensure helpers are looked after. The amount of time each volunteer gives is down to the individual. It can be a few hours per week or on a more occasional basis.

Hannah Henson, voluntary services co-ordinator, said: “The hospice is so lucky to have a dedicated and inspirational group of volunteers who give up their time to support us.

“We have a huge range of backgrounds, ages and skills. I often hear from volunteers how much they get out of their roles personally, be it fun, purpose or new experiences.

“They contribute to the hospice being the light and joyful place it is, with lots going on. People develop lifelong friendships here. We are so grateful for the work our amazing volunteers do, we simply couldn’t do what we do without them.”

Tapping House thanked sponsors that supported the volunteer event including Carter Haulage, CTS Training, Lynn Escape Rooms, Daly Group, Knights Hill Hotel, Titchwell Manor, Middleton Aggregates, Norfolk Coast and Country, Radio West Norfolk and Watatunga.

The hospice is looking for new volunteers. If you are interested, Tapping House is hosting a drop-in open event on June 12 from 11am-2pm where potential volunteers can learn more about volunteering opportunities.
