King's Lynn are hopeful of being back to a full septet by the time their Premiership campaign resumes next week.
The Stars rode with two guests in last night’s (Thursday) KO Cup home match against Sheffield, with captain Tobiasz Musielak and Danish racer Michael Palm Toft both ruled out by injury.
The club are keeping close contact with Musielak, who is looking to return for the trip to Leicester next Thursday, having missed the Stars’ last four matches.
And they haven’t ruled out the possibility of having a new signing in place elsewhere in the line-up, with the need to cover Palm Toft’s absence now a pressing one.
Palm Toft suffered a nasty crash at Berwick last Saturday when his chain broke on the first bend, sending him to the ground in a heavy fall, and to make matters worse he was then run over by team-mate Nathan Ablitt who had no way of avoiding him.
A broken collarbone was quickly diagnosed but the full scale of any shoulder damage is yet to be confirmed, and Palm Toft is certainly looking at a period of weeks on the sidelines.
Stars already had ‘feelers’ out in various locations as they look to strengthen the side, and it would be no surprise to see them initially move in Palm Toft’s position and then reassess matters next month.
The visit to Leicester is quickly followed by a home match with Oxford on June 17, and then a key trip to Birmingham on June 24 and the return leg of the KO Cup tie with Sheffield three days later.
Operations manager Dale Allitt said: “We are actively looking, and really we have been ever since Tobi got injured, whether that was as a 28-day replacement or longer-term.
“Although Nicolai (Klindt) came in to replace Vadim (Tarasenko), it’s clear that when not everyone is firing on the same day, we are a little short, so we need to try and address that.
“Ironically our averages have gone slightly up since last month, but that’s mainly because of Wojdylo.
“But if we do sign someone it’s got to be the right person because it’s not as easy as just bringing anyone in when visas are required.”
Musielak’s crash in early May saw him suffer a broken collarbone, but with that injury healed it emerged that he also picked up ankle ligament damage.
He attempted to race a league fixture in Poland just under a fortnight ago but had to withdraw after three rides because he was not fully fit.
Allitt added: “Tobi messaged last weekend to say he was pleased his meeting in Poland was called off because he was still struggling and needed more time.
“As far as we’re concerned, he’ll get as much time as he needs. We want him back, and he wants to be back, but there’s no pressure on him – we want a fit Tobi back to lead us at No.1.
“We already had the impression he would probably miss the Cup match so we made early moves there regarding guests, and now we’ll see if he’s ready for next week.”
