Arsenal handed new opportunity to re-sign former star after club makes contract decision

Arsenal’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper this summer has now taken a fresh turn as a key target may now be available.

Aaron Ramsdale is set to leave, having lost his place to David Raya this season, and Mikel Arteta is seeking out a new backup option.

It is not an easy signing to make, as recruiting a keeper of similar quality to Raya would recreate the messy situation surrounding the position when the Spaniard joined last year.

Signing a young option could be counter-productive for their development, and therefore recruiting a reliable veteran who can step in when needed, may be the best route to go down.

One option could be former Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who would bring a lot of experience to the squad, but just like his time at the Emirates, he may find himself behind Wojciech Szczesny as a priority.

Reports recently linked Szczesny with a sensational return to Arsenal, but it appeared that the 34-year-old was set to remain at Juventus. However, the situation has now completely changed.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is now set to leave Juventus

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Juventus, who recently signed Michele Di Gregorio as a new goalkeeper, have made the decision to part ways with Szczesny.

They had several options available to them. The Poland star could have remained as the Juventus number one, with Di Gregorio learning from him for a season in the same way Szczesny eventually replaced the legendary Gianluigi Buffon.

The former Arsenal star could also have moved to a backup role in Turin before his contract expires next year, but the Serie A giants have now offered Mattia Perin a new deal, and expect to part ways with their long-serving number-one.

“Juventus are prepared to open talks with Mattia Perin over new deal in the next weeks. Wojciech Szczesny could leave in case of good proposal, there’s concrete interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. Michele Di Gregorio, expected to be Juve 1st GK next season,” Romano posted on X.

Szczesny ticks every possible box when it comes to finding a keeper to support Raya. The Spaniard will be Arsenal’s number one next season, and Raya should hopefully start to receive the credit he deserves for his performances.

Szczesny would bring a wealth of trophy-winning experience to the dressing room, as he will arrive as a seasoned title winner with Juventus, as well as an FA Cup winner with Arsenal.

He has unfinished business in North London, having left somewhat prematurely after a fallout with Arsene Wenger, and as a goalkeeper who progressed through the Academy ranks, he also counts as homegrown at club when it comes to squad registrations.

A return for Szczesny could see him finally succeed in North London, and he would bring a lot of quality to the goalkeeping roster at the club. If he is willing to come back, this is the best option for the role for Arsenal this summer.
