Report: Southampton star is now a surprise transfer option for Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur

A Southampton player could yet seal a shock move to Tottenham Hotspur during this summer’s transfer window.

Southampton will return to the Premier League roster for the 2024/25 campaign after sealing promotion via the Championship play-offs.

Russell Martin’s side beat Leeds United 1-0 in the play-off final and appear to be hard at work in the transfer market, with the summer window officially opening on June 14th.

The Saints have a number of names on their transfer radar, but there’s also a few who could be leaving St Mary’s in the coming weeks and months too.

Che Adams is one who’s looking increasingly likely to move on with Wolves and Nottingham Forest vying for his signature.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who is out of contract along with Adams this summer, is also looking set to seal a move elsewhere.

Now though, another, more unexpected name could be on the move this summer; Kyle Walker-Peters.

Tottenham Hotspur considering Kyle Walker-Peters at Southampton

Walker-Peters, 27, shone for Southampton during the 2023/24 campaign, featuring 46 times in Championship fixtures, with two goals and four assists to his name.

He’s been with the Saints since 2020, initially arriving on loan from Spurs before later making his stay permanent.

Since, the right-back has made 167 total appearances for Southampton, with six goals and 13 assists in that time.

Now though, an emerging report from GIVEMESPORT has revealed that Walker-Peters is a surprise option for former club Tottenham Hotspur as they consider bolstering their full-back department this summer.

Walker-Peters rose through the youth ranks at Spurs, eventually going on to make 24 first-team appearances for the club.

The Kyle Walker-Peters problem that Southampton now face

There’s no doubting that Walker-Peters enjoyed a good 2023/24 season and that he’s someone who’s vital to the way that Martin plays at Southampton.

But this emerging interest from Tottenham Hotspur coincides with Walker-Peters entering the final year of his Southampton contract.

So for the Saints, it’s a very tricky one to weigh up, and that may also be the case for Walker-Peters who’ll surely be considering where his future lies.

He’ll want to be playing in the Premier League in the long-run, no doubt. Southampton may be tipped to struggle next season and so Walker-Peters might hold off on putting pen-to-paper on a new deal, for the time being at least.

If he does, and Spurs come in with an offer this summer, it might make financial sense for the Saints to cash in.

But that would also leave Martin with a void at right-back and they’d surely need to spend well to bring in a player with the same skillset as Walker-Peters.

So it’s a tough one to weigh up. But now for, it doesn’t seem like Spurs have a very pressing interest in their former player.
