Liverpool make ‘excellent’ £60m Premier League attacker their top target to sign for Arne Slot

Liverpool have reportedly made a big decision on who to target in the summer transfer market.

The Reds are yet to make any serious strides in the window as they plan for the Arne Slot era to begin.

There have been reports this week that contact has been made over a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. However, nothing appears to be especially advanced.

In truth, the Liverpool squad is not necessarily short of midfielders, and resources may be better spent providing Slot with a new defender or forward.

There have been a whole host of players in both positions linked with Liverpool, as owners FSG prepare to loosen the purse strings. And as focus sharpens on who could be at the top of the shortlist, the Reds have reportedly made their choice.

Liverpool decide on Michael Olise as transfer priority

Liverpool obviously aren’t short of forwards for the time being. But there are serious question marks over the future of Luis Diaz.

Regardless of if they do lose Diaz, the Reds have also been needlessly wasteful this season. They just need that extra striker who can give them one last edge.

Who they could bring in for that remit without breaking the bank is a question for Michael Edwards to answer.

So far, it had seemed likely that Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville may be the man chosen to take Liverpool to the next level.

However, according to a report from Leeds Live, the Reds have now suddenly ended their interest in Summerville.

Liverpool were said to have been ‘the early front-runners’ to sign the Leeds man, but instead it’s claimed that they have chosen to go in a different direction.

The player reportedly picked as that alternative is Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise. Liverpool have supposedly been tracking Olise for ‘some time’ and are said to have installed him as their new transfer priority.

Should Palace sell the 22-year-old for his £60m release clause, it’s claimed that the Eagles will then look to strike a deal with Leeds for Summerville themselves.

Transfer merry-go-round where everybody wins

Being honest, we weren’t altogether convinced that Summerville was the right option for Liverpool this summer.

The Dutchman looks like a good player in the making and has had a stunning year with Leeds, winning the Championship Player of the Year award. But we’re not convinced he’s ready to make the giant leap to Anfield.

Instead, a move to a club like Palace feels like a more appropriate step for Summerville.

The South London side are upwardly mobile under Oliver Glasner and have already done some eye-catching business this summer. Summerville would only add to that.

As for Olise, he is now Premier League proven and much more ready to join a club like Liverpool.
