Conservative attorney George Conway has been applauding a Manhattan jury's decision to convict former President Donald Trump on 34 criminal counts in District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr.'s hush money/falsified business records case.

Sentencing is set for July 11, which is only four days before the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. It remains to be seen what type of sentence Justice Juan Merchan will impose, but Trump's legal team is likely to file an appeal.

During a Thursday, June 6 appearance on "The Daily Show," Conway was doubtful than an appeal will be successful.

The attorney, who is among Trump's most scathing critics on the right and has been aggressively fundraising for President Joe Biden's reelection campaign, told Ronny Chieng, "I don't think they really have much on appeal. I sat through a good chunk of the trial. I followed the issues."

Conway went on to argue that Trump himself will make the appeal process more difficult just as he made things hard for his defense team during the trial.

Conway told Chieng, "The defense kind of was a little messed up because they have a problem…. The problem is they have some lunatic telling them what to do."

In addition to the Manhattan verdict, Trump is facing three other criminal indictments.

When Chieng brought them up, Conway said they "probably" won't go to trial before the November election. The Never Trump conservative added, however, that there is an "outside shot" that the trial in special counsel Jack Smith's election interference case "could start in September or October" — depending on what the U.S. Supreme Court says about Trump's "presidential immunity" arguments.

"I wouldn't put a lot of money on it, but it's possible," Conway told Chieng. "It really depends on what the Supreme Court does in the next couple of weeks…. The charges in that case involve obstruction of an official proceeding. He obviously tried to obstruct an official proceeding by corrupt means by, among other things, intimidating the vice president and also, by submitting these fake electoral certificates."
