The US electric car manufacturer Tesla put car production at its only European plant near Berlin on hold on Friday as planned.

The stoppage was confirmed by a company spokeswoman. It is the first of five days in June on which Tesla is temporarily shutting down production. The company also plans stoppages on June 14, 17, 27 and 28.

The planned production-free days are to be used for upgrades to the production facilities.

Production has already been on hold several times this year. The plant's foundry and battery cell production are to continue as normal.

Tesla shut down car production at the factory for around two weeks at the end of January, after the delivery of components was disrupted by Yemen's Houthi militia attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

In March, there was an attack on Tesla's power supply near the factory. Car production was on hold for almost a week due to a power outage. In May, production was also halted the day after the Ascension Day public holiday.

The US car manufacturer has been producing electric cars at the plant since March 2022. Around 12,000 employees work there. In April, the company announced 400 job cuts at the plant. However, Tesla says it still plans to ramp up production there in the future.
