BBNBA: Celtics take Game 1 of NBA Finals over PJ Washington, Mavericks

Thursday night, we finally got Game 1 of the NBA Finals after much anticipation. Unfortunately, the game itself wasn’t as exciting considering the outcome was basically decided in the first quarter. After falling into a 37-20 deficit after the first period of play, PJ Washington and the Dallas Mavericks couldn’t catch back up against the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics would win 107-89 to go up 1-0.

A whole lot didn’t go right for the Mavericks as they seemed to desperately find their flow offensively all game long. Of course, Luka Dončić got his, scoring 30 points on the night. However, Washington did his fair share of contributing as well.

In 36 minutes of play, the former ‘Cat scored 14 points (only trailing Luka’s 30 on the team) while also grabbing eight rebounds along the way. Even though it wasn’t his best game, Washington wasn’t the reason the Mavericks couldn’t get it done.

The Mavericks are going to need to figure things out offensively if they want to make things competitive against the Celtics in this series. They were able to overwhelm the Timberwolves with their offensive firepower, so for Washington’s sake, let’s hope this was just an off night.

Game 2 of the NBA Finals will be back in Boston at 8:00 p.m. EST on Sunday. The game will be streamed on ABC.
