‘Negotiations taking place’: Fabrizio Romano says Man City are now in talks to sell £11m player this summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City are now in talks to sell one of their players this summer.

Previous summer transfer windows have seen numerous players make moves in and out of the Etihad Stadium on permanent deals as well as on loans and as free agents to a wide range of clubs around Europe and beyond.

The next summer transfer window isn’t set to officially open for business until June 14.

Despite that, one journalist and transfer expert has shared some behind-the-scenes information regarding one potential deal the Manchester club are now involved in and could see take place once the window opens.

In a recent post on his official X account, Romano had this to say on the matter.

He said: “EXCL: Real Sociedad open talks to sign left-back Sergio Gomez from Man City, initial negotiations taking place.

“Gomez, expected to leave Man City this summer and Real Sociedad are looking for Kieran Tierney replacement. Tierney returns to #AFC and Real like Gomez.”

City should sell Gomez this summer

Back in the 2022 summer transfer window, City paid £11m to sign the Spaniard from Anderlecht.

With two seasons now under his belt with Pep Guardiola’s side, Gomez has only featured in 39 games across all competitions, starting just 14 of them.

In fact, looking back over the current Premier League campaign, the 23-year-old didn’t start any of the six games he appeared in and only racked up 48 minutes of action.

This makes it easy to see why the full-back is now expected to leave the club and why City are in talks to sell him.

Moving forward, if City receive what they feel to be an appropriate offer for the defender, we feel that the best thing for all parties would be if Gomez left the club and moved on to Sociedad if they can give him regular playing time.
