Report: Coleman Hawkins sets visit to Kansas State this weekend

Coleman Hawkins is still considering his options within the transfer portal. While that originally included a visit to Louisville this weekend, those plans have now changed with him visiting Kansas State.

Per Cameron Salerno of CBS Sports, Hawkins will be in Manhattan over the next few days to check out the Wildcats.

“Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins will no longer be visiting Louisville and instead will visit Kansas State this weekend, per sources,” wrote Salerno on Twitter. “Hawkins is one of the top transfers available.”

Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 also used his report to clarify some of the thoughts around Hawkins amidst his decision-making process. While many believes Hawkins might be looking for significant compensation for whatever program may land him, Goodman denied that in saying that it’s more about other factors like fit.

“One major misnomer with Hawkins. I’m told there’s no asking price of $2 million,” Goodman wrote. “He obviously wants to be compensated fairly per the current marketplace, but this is more about the fit, the chance to develop, play for winning program and and for a coach that will get the most out of him.”

Hawkins pulled his name from consideration for the 2024 NBA Draft at the deadline. With that choice, he will be back playing collegiate basketball for his fifth season.

Through four years and in 126 appearances at Illinois, Hawkins has averaged 7.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and two assists while shooting 44.2 % from the field. He became a full-time starter over the last two seasons for the Fighting Illini.

As a senior this past year in Champaign, Hawkins posted a career season at 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.1 blocks. He did so while shooting 45.1% overall and 36.9% from three. That made him an All-Big Ten selection as one of the top power forwards in the nation.

Hawkins entered his name into the portal at the same time as he entered the draft at the end of April. Now, just over a month later, he is still available to programs across the nation.

Hawkins ranks as the No. 17 overall transfer in On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players. That leaves him as the second highest-rated remaining uncommitted player behind only Jamir Watkins. He also rated as the No. 2 PF in those rankings behind only Great Osobor (Washington).

If he were to come to Manhattan, Hawkins would join what is currently a Top-30 portal class for Jerome Tang per On3’s 2024 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. The Wildcats have added seven players in Dug McDaniels (Michigan), CJ Jones (UIC), Brendan Hausen (Villanova), Baye Fall (Arkansas), Max Jones (Cal State Fullerton), Achor Achor (Samford), and Ugonna Onyenso (Kentucky).
