The NATO summit in Washington will address three key issues related to Ukraine. However, there will be no discussion about the country's membership in the alliance, according to the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer.
According to him, the first issue will be related to the mission of bringing Ukraine closer to NATO membership. It will consist of four aspects, including:
- coordination of all forms of training for Ukrainian military personnel;
- coordination of military aid among members of the North Atlantic Alliance;
- supply of military assistance through logistical hubs;
- discussions on the future of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the war.
Moreover, the first three components are already being worked out within the Ramstein format. At the same time, Rob Bauer is convinced that if all the efforts of the 50 countries are coordinated through NATO, this will be an important step towards closer cooperation between Ukraine and the North Atlantic Alliance.
The second issue at the NATO summit will concern the financing of military assistance to Ukraine, namely ensuring reliable support rather than monthly discussions.
The third key issue regarding Ukraine is the creation of a new joint analytical and training center in Poland (Jates). The goal is to extract the right lessons from the war.
At the same time, the admiral noted that the question of Ukraine's membership in the alliance and possible entry schedules will not be discussed. According to him, no one can currently predict how the war will end.
The Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer believes that Ukraine should not be restricted in the range of strikes on Russian territory.
