German police investigating reports of racist chants at teen party

Police in Germany have opened investigations into a group of teenagers suspected of having shouted racist chants to the melody of the song "L'Amour Toujours," in what would be the latest in a series of ugly incidents involving the decades-old pop tune.

Several guests attending a birthday party in the north-eastern municipality of Pantelitz, some 70 kilometres east of Rostock, reportedly shouted "Foreigners out - Germany for Germans" to the tune of the of the party hit, police said.

One person reportedly shouted the banned Nazi salute "Heil Hitler."

According to police, 13 teenagers aged between 15 and 18 attended the garden party. Criminal charges have been filed and police are investigating on suspicion of incitement to hatred and the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.

Several ugly incidents involving racist chants to the song by Italian DJ Gigi D'Agostino have caused outrage in Germany after videos went viral online. Police in several German states have also launched criminal investigations on suspicion of incitement to hatred.

A video of revellers outside a pub on the chic, exclusive North Sea island of Sylt shouting "Foreigners out - Germany for Germans" to the tune of the party hit has prompted condemnation and nationwide headlines.
