A disqualified driver couldn’t resist getting behind the handlebars after he was caught by police driving a motorbike back home.
Stephen Austin, 53, of Orford Road in Swaffham, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted driving while disqualified as well as having no insurance or valid licence.
He also admitted to having 3.39g of cannabis in his possession.
Prosecutor Holly Postle said that on December 21 last year, police saw Austin driving a motorbike up to his home address.
Officers noted that Austin was a disqualified driver, and needed to take an extended re-test in order to drive again.
While he was being arrested, police also found a quantity of cannabis in his possession.
In mitigation, George Sorrell explained that Austin was disqualified from driving some time ago.
“He should have done the re-test before driving, he forgot about it, it wasn’t deliberate,” said Mr Sorrell.
The solicitor explained that Austin was a regular cannabis user and used it to help with anxiety and depression, but is now seeking help from a GP.
“He doesn’t have many friends and likes to potter around Swaffham,” added Mr Sorrell.
Austin was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a fine of £80. He will also pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs of £50.
