Alexis Mac Allister reveals Jurgen Klopp’s message to him just before leaving Liverpool

The dust is beginning to settle at Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s emotional exit.

No one would have expected to be in this position 12 months ago, but Klopp’s time with the Reds is now a thing of the past.

For the Liverpool squad, news of their manager’s departure must have been especially difficult to take. And for those only around the club for a brief period, such as Alexis Mac Allister, the hurt would likely have been deeper.

Mac Allister celebrates his one-year anniversary at Liverpool on Saturday. The Argentine has been a big hit at Anfield.

And having become close to Klopp over the past 12 months, Mac Allister has now shared what the former boss told him as he made his departure.

Alexis Mac Allister reveals Jurgen Klopp message

It’s unfortunate that Liverpool did not sign Mac Allister two or three years ago. The 25-year-old was a perfect match for Klopp.

The manager called Mac Allister a ‘football doctor‘ due to his intricacy and smartness on the pitch, while some Liverpool players jokingly referred to Klopp as Mac Allister’s ‘dad.’

Had the pair continued to work together, that relationship and connection would surely only have grown further.

And as he gears up for the Copa America with Argentina, Mac Allister has told TyC Sports that Klopp expressed regret at only having worked with his No.10 for one year.

“At one point we gave each other a hug and he told me that it was a shame that we had only shared a year,” the former Brighton man explained.

“But he gave me a lot of confidence for everything that is coming. He told me what I knew, which was that I was at the right club to continue growing.”

Alexis Mac Allister speaks on his happiness at Liverpool

As well as detailing his final conversation with Klopp, Mac Allister also touched on the topic of his future at Liverpool.

After a really good debut season at Anfield, there have been reports that Mac Allister has caught the eye of Real Madrid.

There were suggestions that the European champions could take advantage of a supposed release clause in the World Cup winners contract. This has since been denied, though, and it seems that Mac Allister is still fully committed to the Reds.

“Everything works well, it’s not a club with big egos and everyone tries to help you in whatever way they can,” he says during the same interview with TyC Sports.

“On the pitch everything is different, because outside everything can be very nice, but you have to perform inside.

“I’ve had to play in several positions and I enjoyed it a lot, I’m happy to be at a club as big as Liverpool.”
