Report: Leicester City in talks with former PL boss sacked in 2021, he's been unemployed since

Leicester City are now in talks with a former Premier League manager who was sacked in 2021, and hasn’t worked since.

Leicester City are without a manager ahead of their Premier League return, after Enzo Maresca took the Chelsea job.

The Italian guided Leicester City towards the Championship title last season, with the Foxes winning promotion at the first time of asking.

Former Manchester City assistant coach Maresca has signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with the option of a further year.

The appointment has come as a surprise to many in the footballing community, though for many Leicester City fans, it’s not the end of the world.

Maresca came under criticism at times for the way that Leicester City played under his watch and many fans may be excited about the prospect of a new manager coming in.

Several names have been linked; Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic has been linked, along with former Nottingham Forest and Swansea City manager Steve Cooper.

But a new name is now in the running; former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Leicester City in talks with former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

An emerging report from The Sun has claimed that Leicester City and Solskjaer are ‘in talks’ ahead of the Foxes’ return to the Premier League.

Solskjaer, 51, is best known as a player for his time at Manchester United, then as a manager for his time managing the Red Devils.

As a player, he made 366 total appearances for the club, scoring 126 goals and winning six Premier League titles, a Champions League, and several other titles.

As manager, Solskjaer oversaw 168 games at Manchester United and won 91 (54.17%) between 2018 and 2021, being sacked with the club in 7th place of the Premier League table.

The former Molde and Cardiff City boss has been unemployed since.

Would Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be a good fit for Leicester City

Three years out of the game is a long time. A lot has changed about the style of play in the Premier League since then, and returning with such a difficult job at the King Power Stadium won’t be easy.

Not only are Leicester City returning to the Premier League, but their summer ahead may be difficult to navigate given the financial restrictions surrounding them in the transfer market.

Solskjaer’s experience as a player may serve him well in the Premier League and he’s had some good experiences as a manager albeit with mixed results.

Solskjaer was successful in Norway with Mole, winning two league titles, but like many others, he couldn’t make the Manchester United job work.

For Leicester City, there’s surely better and more innovative options than a manager in Solskjaer who’s been out of the game for a long time, and didn’t exactly succeed in his last role.

The Leicester City owners need to be wary of hiring someone with a big name who’s got big clubs on his CV; often times, such appointments tend to offer mixed results.
