The British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has become the victim of an unknown prankster who claimed to be former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, reports The Telegraph.
According to the media, the secretary and the prankster initially exchanged several messages. A few days ago, they had a video call.
Cameron ended the conversation when he became suspicious because the prankster asked him for contacts of British government members.
The British Foreign Office stated that they conducted an investigation and determined that the call was indeed a hoax. The Office did not specify who was behind or how they managed to contact the secretary.
The Foreign Office explained that they disclosed details of the conversation out of concern that it could be manipulated.
According to The Telegraph, this is not the first such incident targeting British politicians. Previously, Russia was accused of being behind such incidents.
In November 2023, a similar incident occurred with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. A prankster claiming to be the president of the African Union Commission had a phone conversation with Meloni discussing the war in Ukraine, during which the prime minister expressed war fatigue.
The prank was orchestrated by Russians, and following this incident, Meloni's diplomatic advisor resigned.
