Diogo Jota suggests Liverpool have a ‘fantastic’ midfielder who is even better than Man United’s Bruno Fernandes

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has named his all-time best XI of teammates throughout his career.

Having played for four years in a superb Liverpool side as well as being a constant in the Portugal national team, Jota has plenty to choose from.

The current Liverpool squad in itself has several players who could easily make up ‘best in the world’ teams right now.

Virgil van Dijk has been put forward as potentially the best player on the planet this season, while Alisson Becker earned similar praise from Jurgen Klopp.

One area where the Reds have sometimes been seen to be lacking over Jota’s time at the club has been in midfield, though. But amid big competition from some Portuguese starlets, one Liverpool player has made Jota’s team.

Diogo Jota picks Alexis Mac Allister as all-time teammate

Given their status as the best in the world in their respective positions, it’s no surprise to see Jota name both Alisson and Van Dijk in his all-time XI.

The 27-year-old went on to stick three more of his current Liverpool teammates as well as himself in the team.

Jota was naming his choices during a video posted on the official X page of the Carabao Cup on Friday.

The defence very much had a Liverpool flavour to it, with Alisson and Van Dijk being joined by Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

Jota picked Manchester City’s Ruben Dias at centre-back while Andy Robertson has reason to be disappointed after losing out to Joao Cancelo at left-back.

The midfield is where Jota’s Portuguese influence really starts to take hold, though. Bernardo Silva and Ruben Neves take the first two of three slots.

But while some may have expected Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes to complete the trio, Jota opted instead for Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister.

Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo complete an exceptional looking team, with Jota playing left of the front three.

Alexis Mac Allister deserves Diogo Jota praise

Having played with Mac Allister for just one year at Liverpool, this is actually really big praise from Jota.

The Argentine was comfortably the Reds’ best midfielder this season and it shouldn’t be forgotten that he is a World Cup winner after all.

When making his selection, it’s probable that Fernandes was the closest competitor to Mac Allister.

But in our opinion, we’d also rather have our No.10 over the United captain. While Fernandes is a very good player, Mac Allister just has something a little bit special.

Former Liverpool player Kolo Toure called Mac Allister ‘fantastic‘ for the way the 25-year-old was running games with the Reds earlier in the season.

Let’s hope that Macca can have just as big an impact in his second season at Anfield and make himself on of the first names on Jota’s imaginary team sheet.
