German tennis federation to talk with Boris Becker about return

German Tennis Federation (DTB) president Dietloff von Arnim will talk with Boris Becker next week about a possible return to the DTB, following criticism from the triple Wimbledon champion.

"I have a phone appointment with Boris next week. I will gladly discuss our high performance concept with him," Von Arnim told dpa at the French Open.

Becker, 56, had said earlier in the week on Eurosport he was ready to return to the DTB but said Von Arnim had never followed up on an approach last summer.

The former world number one said he was not after money in a return and suggested that more involvement from former stars was "not wanted" by the DTB.

Becker was the DFB's head of men's tennis before having to serve a prison term in Britain for withholding assets in a bankruptcy case.

Becker also voiced concern about the future of German tennis due to a lack of emerging talent, saying there was "a big hole" behind French Open finalist Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff.

"I am concerned about the 18-to-21-year-olds. I see too few who can assert themselves after coming out of the youth sector," Becker said.

Von Arnim said there was "no discrepancy at all" in this assessment ad that the financing of the planned high performance concept must be pushed forward.

"At the moment, Alexander Zverev is casting a big shadow over the issue. Now we can all think about how to tackle this issue - also in terms of personnel," Von Arnim said.
