"Banana ek baat hai aur nibhana ek baat hai": Renuka Chowdhury questions longevity of BJP-led NDA govt

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury on Saturday took a jibe at the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre, questioning its longevity and said that in the coming future, one will have to witness bad days.

While speaking with the reporters, Renuka Chowdhury said, "We will see for how long this government will work. 'Banana ek baat hai aur nibhana ek baat hai'. I don't think that this government knows anything about it."

Her statements come after the BJP-led NDA failed to secure a win in the majority of the seats, a stark contrast to its stellar performances in 2014 and 2019. BJP's return to power will now depend on smaller allies - particularly Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and Nitish Kumar's JD-U.

The BJP got 240 seats, less than the majority mark of 272 seats, however, the NDA has secured 292 seats out of 543 Lok Sabha seats. The INDIA bloc has bagged 233 seats. Others have won 18 seats in the lower house of Parliament. The Congress secured 99 seats. Samajwadi Party got 37 seats while Trinamool Congress 29. DMK managed to win 22 seats.

On the query of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to be Leader of Opposition, the former Union Minister claimed that the country wants him to assume the role of LoP. "The youth of the country is demanding Rahul Gandhi to become LoP. However, we will see what Rahul Gandhi will say about it."

Earlier today, the CWC passed the resolution that party MP Rahul Gandhi should be appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, sources said on Saturday. The CWC resolution praised Rahul Gandhi for his efforts in the election campaign. The meeting was attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Manish Tiwari, DK Shivakumar, and Revanth Reddy, among others.

Renuka Chowdhury also spoke about Chhattisgarh's former Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel's statement about mid-term elections, she said, "I am not an astrologer to say such things but I would say one thing--We will have to see bad days in the coming future."

A day earlier, Bhupesh Baghel had took a jibe at the NDA and claimed that the mid-term elections will be held within one year. Taking to his official X handle, Bhupesh Baghel posted a video in which he was seen addressing his party workers and said, "Fellow workers, be ready! Mid-term elections can be held within six months to one year."

On JDU spokesperson KC Tyagi's statement that Nitish Kumar was offered the post of Prime Minister by the INDIA alliance, she sarcastically said, "And Nitish Kumar declined it! Waah re waah! There is a great progress in his heart and mind. It is a very good thing."

KC Tyagi had claimed that the INDIA leaders had offered the post of PM to Nitish Kumar. "It shows the political bankruptcy of the leaders of the INDIA bloc who were not ready to make Nitish Kumar the convener of the alliance, they offered him the PM post. I am happy that JDU leadership rejected them and Nitish Kumar endorsed the name of Narendra Modi as the new PM and all these rumours spread by them have come to an end," Tyagi told ANI.

In the meantime, Narendra Modi is all set to take the oath as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term tomorrow. The mega event will see the presence of dignitaries from across the world.

Security has been tightened in the national capital ahead of the mega event. The security measures follow the formal appointment of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister by the President of India on Friday. (ANI)
