5-star athlete Michael Terry logs Texas official visit

Texas is eyeing an elite in-state haul in the 2025 cycle, as the top nine prospects in the Lone Star State are all inside the top 50 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking.

One of those top recruits is San Antonio Alamo Heights five-star athlete Michael Terry. The Longhorns are battling the likes of Nebraska, Oregon and Texas A&M for the top-ranked ATH in the nation. This weekend, Terry is in Austin for his official visit with the incoming SEC program.

Texas didn’t jump in with an offer for Terry until late January, but once the Longhorns got involved, they quickly rose to contender status. UT currently has the slight edge in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, too.

“It’s a really big thing to get an offer from them,” Terry said of Texas at the On3 Elite Series last month. “Coming from my hometown, that’s a big school and they’ve had a lot of success. What Coach Sark has going on over there [is impressive]. He’s getting a lot of guys into the NFL and bettering their career.”

“Since the ninth grade I’v been to the school around six times I believe,” he told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “Two camps, junior day and two to three games. Not only did they offer me, Coach Sark called me himself. So that made it really special.”

The buzz has been around Nebraska and Texas A&M for Terry as he continues to take official visits. He was in Lincoln for his OV with the Huskers at the end of April and is set to head to College Station next weekend. The Longhorns can’t be counted out, however.

“They really set the bar high,” Terry said of Nebraska following his OV. “They showed me a lot of companionship and open arms since I got there.”

Terry is the No. 21 overall prospect and No. 1 ATH in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in Texas.

Texas charging for top-10 recruiting class

The Longhorns now have 10 commits in their 2025 class following the addition of four recruits in May, headlined by Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist four-star running back James Simon, the No. 10 RB in the cycle.

He’s one of four top-200 pledges in the mix for Steve Sarkisian and Co. Texarkana (Texas) Pleasant Grove four-star athlete Lance Jackson continues to rise and is now the No. 71 overall recruit in the nation. Saraland (Ala.) four-star quarterback commit K.J. Lacey is a top-10 QB and top-10 player in Alabama.

Dallas Skyline four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes committed in April. He and Jackson are two of six total in-state pledges in the class. Other top commits include Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill four-star running back Rickey Stewart Jr., Calhoun (Ga.) four-star tight end Emaree Winston and Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie four-star defensive lineman Brandon Brown.
