‘Top guy’: Stefan Ortega says he absolutely loves working with ‘incredible’ Man City man

Stefan Ortega has said that he really enjoys working with one particular figure at Manchester City.

The goalkeeper recently put pen to paper on a contract extension that will now see him stay at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026.

Having now completed two seasons at the Manchester club, the 31-year-old has worked with a large number of people at City including fellow players, coaching staff and other non-footballing employees.

Now though, the German has shared his thoughts on one specific individual he has particularly enjoyed working with during his time at the club.

Stefan Ortega says working with Pep Guardiola has changed him

Speaking in a recent interview with the club after the news of his contract extension was announced, Ortega had this to say about what it’s been like working with Pep Guardiola.

He said: “Sometimes it’s really hard because he [Pep Guardiola] tries to be perfect but obviously everyone knows to be perfect is impossible.

“But it’s enjoyable because if you work under Pep, he opens your view of football in a completely new way, it’s incredible.

“For example, when I watch football now I watch it so differently to before because you get so many inputs off Pep.

“He’s incredible. He’s a top guy and it’s just a privilege to be a part of his team.”

Guardiola may have led to Ortega’s new contract extension

Since joining the Blues back in the 2022 summer transfer window on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld, Ortega has made 34 appearances across all competitions, conceding 27 goals and keeping 17 clean sheets along the way.

Now that the shot-stopper has revealed how much he has enjoyed the unique experience of being coached by Guardiola, this could well have been one of the reasons why he has decided to sign a contract extension and continue his time with the Spaniard and City.
