An artist is gearing up for her third exhibition of paintings at a village venue - making her the first designer to have accomplished this achievement.
The one-woman exhibition by Susan Vaughan-Williams runs from Saturday, June 15 to Saturday, June 22 at West Acre Gallery, near Swaffham, daily from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Entitled ‘Fractured Force – Paintings to Feed and Fire Curiosity’, her work seeks to represent “the fractured world we live in”.
As Susan describes it: “The injustices and madness of the world drive me to paint as a way of understanding and framing perspective and, in the process, hopefully, to furnish positivity.
“Using my fingers to apply and manipulate paint is a great way of turning frustration into colourful hope.”
Susan, who lives in Great Bircham, studied at St Martin’s School of Art in London, and followed this with a visual merchandising course.
This led her onto several years as a display and exhibition designer with the Christian Dior fashion house.
As a full-time painter for the last decade, Susan said: “My art neither conforms nor preaches.
“It is unshackled and intense, bold and colourful. With oil paint as my preferred medium, I create strong pieces that have complexity and depth or a powerful simplicity, revealing themselves not all at once, but over time.
“My work comes from an inner space of concerns, thought and imagination, but often includes elements of the natural, human or industrial landscape, absorbed through sensory experiences rather than observational studies.”
