The price Arsenal will accept for Kieran Tierney as Celtic chat continues

With the transfer window opening less that a week away, the Celtic fans will be eagerly watching the business that will inevitably happen at the club this summer.

The majority of the headlines have been taken up with Celtic’s search for a new goalkeeper over the past few weeks.

While that does remain a priority for the club, there are other positions that need strengthening if Brendan Rodgers hopes to make a serious fist of next season’s Champions League campaign.

And one rumour that continues to do the rounds is the possibility of Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic.

Arsenal would accept £10m for Tierney

The rumour of Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic has never gone away over the past year or so. The former Celtic hero’s time at Arsenal started off brightly but as injury hampered his progression at the club, he fell further and further from Mikel Arteta’s plans.

A loan move to Real Sociedad last August gave Tierney an opportunity to show what he could do in La Liga, but injury once again blighted his spell at the Spanish club and he made just 26 appearances for them. [Transfermarkt]

Now, back at Arsenal, it seems that The Gunners are willing to let him go for £10m as it seems the Scotland defender’s time at the North London club nears its end. [The Sunday Post print edition page 65]

Now, the Celtic fans may well think that a £10m fee is affordable for the club, and by all accounts it is, but that isn’t the biggest issue the club face if they had designs of making Tierney a permanent Celt again.

Tierney’s £110,000 per week salary is simply too rich for Celtic and unless he is willing to take a huge pay cut, a permanent move would be right out of the question. [Spotrac]

A loan move could be possible but with Tierney’s injury track record coupled with the physicality of Scottish football, many fans could question whether or not this would be a wise move by the club.
