'Can't be true': Fabrizio Romano rubbishes recent reports about Leeds United star

Fabrizio Romano has delivered a new update on the future of Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville with both Liverpool and Chelsea said to be interested in the attacker.

The 22-year-old is likely to leave Leeds this summer after a fine campaign in which he had a hand in 31 goals, winning The Championship’s Player of the Season award even after Leeds failed to be promoted.

Plenty of clubs are being linked with the diminutive attacker. Liverpool and Chelsea are hot on his trail, who’s rated at £35m-£40m while Fulham, West Ham and Bournemouth are also interested in Summerville.

Newcastle have internally discussed a move while Crystal Palace could go after the former Feyenoord ace, if either Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze are sold at Selhurst Park with big Premier League clubs interested.

Romano has now given an update on the race to sign Summerville, with Leeds needing to sell him in order to bring in cash and meet the guidelines of Financial Fairplay and the Profit & Sustainability rules.

Fabrizio Romano delivers new update on Crysencio Summerville

Despite Liverpool being regularly linked with a move for Summerville, some recent reports suggested that Arne Slot’s new side had cooled their interest in the Netherlands U21 star despite Slot being an admirer.

Romano reaffirmed on Caught Offside that Liverpool and Chelsea are keen having scouted the attacker in recent months. He rubbished reports that The Reds are not interested in signing Leeds United’s no.10.

“Liverpool and Chelsea have been scouting Crysencio Summerville for months. In terms of negotiations, nothing has started yet. Talk of the Reds no longer being interested in the winger can’t be true,” he said.

“As it is still early for this transfer. The appreciation from both clubs is still there, so we have to see if they decide to approach Leeds for Summerville at some point during the transfer window,” Romano added.

Which move is best for Summerville with Leeds exit inevitable

It is more when not if, with Summerville. He will be on his way this summer, he has the interest, he has the quality and The 49ers need to sell as he represents massive profit, a big Financial Fairplay thumbs up.

The chances of Summerville getting into Liverpool or Chelsea’s teams though, feel unlikely. The amount of options in attack for both makes it unlikely he is going to be a key player, that’s what he thrives on.

Newcastle have Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon on the left. But at West Ham, Fulham or Palace – if Eze and Olise go – you would imagine he would have the quality to start week in, week out this summer.
