Czech Republic: Police in Prague arrest terrorist suspect

Security measures at railway stations and public places in Prague have been stepped up following the arrest of a man linked to a terrorist threat in the Czech Republic.

Czech police announced on the social media platform X on Sunday that this measure was necessary due to a potential threat to infrastructure.

The suspect, believed to be a Spanish-speaking individual from a Latin American country, had been sought since Friday, authorities said. They had previously warned that the man was dangerous.

Public prosecutor Martin Bílý stated that the man was being investigated for arson, although criminal proceedings have not yet begun. Further details were not provided.

Additional information is expected following a meeting of the National Security Council.

Interior Minister Vít Rakušan wrote on X on Sunday that although preventive security measures remain in place in busy public places in Prague, there is no immediate danger.
