Sweden's Social Democrats again the winners in European elections

Sweden's Social Democrats have once again emerged as the strongest force in the European elections, taking 24.9% of the vote, the electoral authority said early Monday after more than 90% of ballots were counted.

The Greens posted the largest gains, securing 13.8% according to the preliminary result, up more than 2 percentage points on their 2019 result and taking third spot.

The Moderates, a liberal-conservative party, came in second behind the Social Democrats.

The right-wing populist Sweden Democrats were fourth with 13.2%, down over 2 percentage points on their result in the 2019 European elections.

Sweden holds 21 seats in the European Parliament.
