OT Tavaris Dice strong in Auburn commitment, sees ‘top 5′ potential for Tigers’ class

Tavaris “TJ” Dice, a 4-star Auburn offensive tackle commit, took his official visit to Auburn over the weekend. He has taken several visits to Auburn, but this one was important.

“Man, exciting, electric,” Dice said. “I haven’t been back in a while. Being back here, especially with my family, we enjoyed it a lot. They had fun and they feel really good about me being here for the next 3-4 years and I do too.”

“I talked to everybody. I had great talks with Coach Freeze, my family had great talks with Coach Freeze. They got to see everything, the photoshoot was very fun. That night was something special, we ate good all weekend, you know. There’s nothing better than this. The environment they had this weekend, it was second to none.”

Dice is the No. 201 overall player in the class of 2025, the No. 16 offensive tackle, the No. 28 player in the state of Georgia according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Dice sees high potential in Auburn class

He was joined with several different family members on the visit.

“Two of my aunts, my mom, my grandma, and two of my little cousins,” Dice said. “My little cousins were running around having fun with all the other kids. They all had a smile on their face and that made me really happy.”

“It was crazy for me. Where I come from, everybody doesn’t get the chances I get. I am only 17 years old, so not every 17 year old has a life like this. I’m just blessed to be able to take my family places like this and just have a good time. It’s just good to see everybody with a smile on their face. We had a great weekend. We met up with everybody I’m going to be with.”

Dice has been in the recruiting game long enough to understand the process of it with different schools. At Auburn, it continues to feel different.

“You know, every school will sugarcoat everything,” Dice said. “They will tell you how they feel about you. But, Auburn, I just feel it. I feel like I can come here and do what I have to do. I have never asked for a handout. So, my thing is, I am coming in and trying to compete with all the older guys. I’m trying to start first year. And, this has nothing to do with Coach Thornton, I just have high expectations when I get here. So, being here with how things will open up with the offensive line next year and a lot of guys leaving, I will compete. I’m ready.”

High expectations for recruiting class

Dice is impressed with the class Auburn coaches are putting together around him as well.

“It’s coming together really good,” Dice said. “Coach Thornton and Coach Payton (Cox) are doing their thing. We just got Big (Broderick) Shull. We are moving up in the rankings for sure–We will be a top five class by the end of the year, for sure.”

In fact, Dice is close to calling his shot on Auburn landing another offensive lineman to the class.

“I feel like everybody enjoyed it a lot,” Dice said. “I feel like Coach Thornton will get another offensive lineman this week. Big (Jacobe) Ward. I feel like he loves it. We spent a lot of time together. We went out with all the players, the offensive linemen, Big J-Wright, Connor Lew.”

Dice currently has an official visit set for Florida, but he will decide this week if that visit will happen.

“I don’t know yet, I am still trying to see, but I will have an answer soon,” Dice said. “I’m not going anywhere else.”
