Luxembourg's right-wing ADR to enter EU parliament for the first time

Luxembourg's right-wing Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) has made it into the European Parliament for the first time after scoring nearly 12% of the vote in Sunday's election.

Luxembourg, one of the EU's smallest but richest countries, has six seats in the legislature. It has a population of around 660,000.

Prime Minister Luc Frieden's centre-right Christian Social People's Party (CSV) received almost 30% of the vote. That means it will send, as before, two members to the European Parliament.

The centre-left Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party, the liberal Democratic Party (DP) and the Greens will all send one lawmaker, official results showed on Monday morning.

The DP previously had two seats.

The CSV has been in coalition with the DP since last November.

The previous prime minister, Xavier Bettel of the DP, is now serving as deputy prime minister and foreign minister.
