Report: National team coach forced to take part in training session after injury to Liverpool star

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be eager to get going with his new players as soon as possible ahead of the new season.

The Dutchman is currently settling into life on Merseyside with his family following his move to England, having officially started at Anfield at the beginning of June.

But meetings with his new group will undoubtedly be staggered this summer due to the international action taking place.

Several Reds will be looking to taste success with their respective countries, with Euro 2024 rapidly approaching.

One man who has already explained that his priorities lie with international football instead of club action is Andy Robertson, with the left-back yet to speak with Slot since his appointment.

Liverpool ace Andy Robertson withdraws from training due to injury

That is because the Scotland captain is doing his utmost to help guide his nation to some form of success in Germany this summer.

But his preparations have taken a huge blow, with the defender forced out of the latest training session due to injury.

As per Sky Sports, Robertson was escorted by physios into the gym area, with a member of the Scotland background staff needing to take his place in the open training session in Germany.

In an attempt to make up the numbers, former Celtic youth player Aidan Mcilduff was captured stepping in at left-back when Steve Clarke’s side were carrying out shape and crossing drills.

How bad is Andy Robertson’s injury for Scotland and Liverpool?

Both Liverpool and Scotland fans will be desperate that Robertson’s early exit from the open training session was just a precaution.

Clarke’s side have already been devastated by injury, with Lawrence Shankland also forced out of the session alongside Robertson, while his fellow forward Lyndon Dykes was recently ruled out of the tournament with injury.

Midfield ace Lewis Ferguson is also absent due to injury, while Robertson’s Liverpool teammate Ben Doak is another casualty.

The young attacker had the perfect chance to impress Slot after being handed a surprise call-up by Clarke, but his Scotland opportunities will have to wait for the time being.

Robertson is undoubtedly the main concern at this moment in time, but the fact he was able to walk away from training should be considered a good sign.

Liverpool fans will want their left-back ready for the new season, with the defender having been limited to just 30 appearances last time out in an injury-hit campaign.
