Grimston midweek T20 clash against Thornham finally beats the weather

Grimston hosted Thornham in the Norfolk Cricket League T20 Trophy on Thursday evening, in a match which was rearranged due to poor weather.

Thornnham captain Jacob Hewson won the toss and opted to field first, with Grimston batters Mark Tilbrook and Mark Pickering opening proceedings in style.

Tilbrook blasted his way to 92 runs from only 43 balls, with a strike rate of more than 300 at times; Pickering also added 43 runs to the total, with Josh Leverett-King and Andrew Tilbrook adding 15 runs each.

Grimston finished their innings on 188 for 4. Jacob Hewson was the standout performer with three wickets from his as many overs.

With an imposing total to chase down, Thornham couldn’t have had a worse start to their innings, losing three wickets in the opening over to Bharathi Krishnan – the third a superb catch by James Allitt.

Ben Harris and Jacob Hewson steadied the ship to score 20 runs and 46 not out respectively, but it wasn’t to be Thornham’s day as they fell to 101 runs for 8 wickets.

Bharathi Krishnan was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for only nine runs.

Reflecting on the match, Grimston skipper Andrew Tilbrook was pleased with his team’s performance, saying: "When Mark is in form he’s unplayable, and he has gone out there tonight and shown how quickly he can score.

"Bharathi also bowled superbly, this was a strong Grimston team and we can be a match for anyone on our day.”
