Years of traffic misery and disruption to residents’ daily lives could be set to end after highways chiefs revealed a controversial junction upgrade scheme on the outskirts of Bishop’s Stortford will be completed on Thursday (June 13).
The upgrade of junction 8 of the M11 at Birchanger Green, which includes replacing the roundabout at the intersection of the A120 with Birchanger Lane and the A1250 Dunmow Road with a signalised junction, was supposed to be finished at the end of last year.
Delays to the project, being carried out by John Sisk & Son for Essex Highways, saw more completion dates of May, end of May and early June pass by, but this week the Indie was informed of the latest completion date.
A spokesperson said: “The scheme is largely finished, subject to snagging and lights being commissioned.
“The nature of the works means that until snagging is complete, the lights cannot be commissioned, and we are unable to remove the traffic management in place.
“The contractor had been working to have this complete by May, but further works have been required, meaning we have been awaiting a date to book the required road space to undertake the commissioning of the lights.
“A date of June 13 has now been confirmed for this, with the traffic management being removed asap following the commissioning.”
The spokesperson added: “If there is any change to this, we will update you.”
