Dwayne Wimbley Jr., a three-star in-state prospect out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, has committed to Florida State, he told On3.

In addition to the Seminoles, the 6-foot-5 small forward also received offers from TCU, Samford, Florida Gulf Coast, and others.

Wimbley on his commitment to the ‘Noles

Wimbley, the No. 180 ranked recruit in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, broke down his decision to commit to Florida State with On3.

“I could see myself playing at FSU and growing as a person and a player,” he said. “I love everything about the campus and city of Tallahassee, it feels like home. My sister, Alexia, is already a student there too. Also, the ACC is the top basketball conference and I want to compete against the best.”

His familiarity with the coaching staff made him comfortable.

“I’ve known them my whole life. My dad played for Coach Hamilton and Coach Jones at UM and he teaches me what he learned from them and I would love for them to coach me. I’ve heard so many stories from my dad and his former teammates about them and the type of people they are. I trust them with my future because I know they can help me develop and grow.”

In his own words, what type of player is Florida State getting in Wimbley?

“I love to win. I’m a versatile player. I’m a big guard and wing. I can defend multiple positions and I love to shut down the best player on the other team. I’m a defensive-minded player but I can also score in a lot of different ways and I love getting my teammates involved. And I will try to dunk everything I can around the rim.”

He has a message for FSU fans.

“I will bring some excitement to “The Tuck” with high flying dunks and aggressive defense. I’m coming to win games, have fun, and be a part of FSU’s first national championship in basketball. I can’t wait to celebrate with the fans and city after.”
