Pat Angerer named Iowa football radio analyst

Pat Angerer will replace Ed Podolak in the radio booth.

When it was announced in late April that Ed Podolak would be transition from his long time role as the color analyst for Iowa football, there was immediate speculation as to which former Hawkeye would take his place in the broadcast booth.

That question was answered on Monday when the University of Iowa and Learfield announced that former Hawkeye linebacker Pat Angerer would become the radio partner of Gary Dolphin starting this fall.

“I would like to thank Learfield and the University of Iowa for this amazing opportunity,” said Angerer. “Since the beginning of this process, they have been nothing but professional and gracious. I am incredibly honored to be a small part of a program that has been so good to me and teammates over the years.”

Angerer is a native of Bettendorf, Iowa currently resides in his hometown. He was a part of Iowa’s great 2005 recruiting class and led the Bulldogs to a state title in his senior year. Injuries slowed his development at Iowa early in his career, but in his junior year, Angerer won the starting middle linebacker job and his Hawkeye career took off.

In 2008, Angerer led Iowa with 107 tackles and had five interceptions on his way to earning second team All Big Ten honors. Then in 2009, Angerer and the Hawkeyes won their first nine games of the season and 13 in a row dating back to the 2008 campaign. He has 145 stops in the 2009 season and was named first team All American by the Football Writers Association of America and second team All American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and the Associated Press. He was also one of five finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Award.

In April of 2010 he was a selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the 63 overall pick. He played for the Colts from 2010-13. He became a starter for Indianapolis in the middle of his rookie season and in year two in the NFL, he started every game, piling up 148 tackles. Angerer then retired from the NFL in 2014 due to injuries and currently works in the banking industry in the Quad Cities.

“Ed (Podolak) and Gary (Dolphin) have been a huge part of my Hawkeye football experience as a player and fan, and I hope that I can do them, the university, the football program, and the fans justice,” said Angerer. “I plan to take the same passion I had as a player to the booth.”
