Liverpool are being linked with a number of players this summer and Atalanta star Ederson is among the midfielders being mentioned.
Ederson played a key role in helping the Italians win the Europa League and is now in-demand thanks to his all-action displays in the centre of the park.
Indeed, reports over the weekend suggested the Reds were going to submit a bid worth at least £38m to sign the Brazilian.
However, according to reports from Italy, it is another Serie A midfielder who Ederson knows well who is more likely to be on the move.
Liverpool more likely to get Teun Koopmeiners than Ederson right now
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are still one of the clubs showing an interest in Ederson’s Atalanta teammate, Teun Koopmeiners.
The Dutch star was equally as important in the midfield for the Italian side last season and as we know, the Reds have made their interest in him known.
Koopmeiners is valued at around £50m by Atalanta and the report from GDS claims that as of now, he is the more likely of their midfield pairing to be sold.
Liverpool are once again mentioned in the report as being keen, while Juventus are also thought to be pushing to land the midfielder.
Koopmeiners, described as an ‘extraordinary‘ midfielder, has been called up by Holland for the Euros and is likely to want his future resolving quickly after the tournament.
Decision to make for Arne Slot and FSG
It’s no surprise to see the Reds being linked with both Koopmeiners and Ederson but there’s no way the club will be signing both.
Naturally, given Arne Slot worked with Koopmeiners at Feyenoord, he would appear to be the one the club may lean more towards.
However, Ederson is also suited and given the openness in wanting a more defensive minded midfielder, the Brazilian could well be the one.
Regardless, it does seem Atalanta will play ball over both and if Liverpool put the money up, then they might just one of Koopmeiners or Ederson over the line.
