The One Hootie and the Blowfish Song Darius Rucker Can’t Listen To Anymore + Why

Darius Rucker

Of course we all know of Darius Rucker and his thriving country music career, but let us not forget that he was a part of Hootie and the Blowfish, the band with the album, Cracked Rearview, that is in the Top 20 album sales of all-time in America.

But there is one Hootie and the Blowfish song that you will never hear playing in Rucker’s presence.

Darius Rucker Reveals the One Hootie and the Blowfish Song He Can’t Listen to Anymore and Why

So what song is Rucker no longer able to listen to? “‘Old Man and Me,’ off the second record. We play it so fast, we play it like a punk song, and we recorded it so slow, that I can’t really put that one on.”

It’s an interesting reason that he doesn’t listen to this track anymore. The track is actually kind of mid-tempo, at 100 beats per minute, so the fact that it seems to have been recorded too slow for the album, shows how fast they must indeed play it live.

Only a trained musical ear can really tell the difference in the tempo of the live version of “Old Man and Me” and the recorded version of the song. There seems to indeed be a slight increase in beats per minute in the live with way more energy as well.

For a band that has sold tens of millions of albums worldwide, you would think Rucker would be able to listen to each and every Hootie and the Blowfish album without skipping one song.

That is not the case, as he exclusively told Taste of Country Nights.

Hootie and the Blowfish are currently on a world tour that runs all the way through October of 2024.
