The federal judge overseeing the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump and two of his associates refused Monday to dismiss some of the charges, according to The Associated Press.

Trump was accused of unlawfully retaining classified documents from his presidency and planning with his valet and a Mar-a-Lago property manager to hide the documents from the government. Trump's team sought to dismiss over half a dozen of the 41 counts, highlighting their continued efforts to evade responsibility for their actions.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon rejected challenges related to obstruction and false statements. In her order, she emphasized that deficiencies in the indictment did not warrant a dismissal, and instead underscored the importance of a fair jury trial.

Cannon has repeatedly denied motions to dismiss the case, including a claim that Trump was authorized to keep the documents under the Presidential Records Act. Her rulings signify a judicial dedication to holding public officials accountable and ensuring that justice prevails, reinforcing the message that the misuse of classified information will not be tolerated.
