Report: Club now expect to sell their star defender after claims Arsenal want to sign him

One Premier League side are now expected to sell their star defender who has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal.

As well as the offensive additions Mikel Arteta desires this summer, Edu will also need to ensure that Arsenal start the new season with better depth at the back.

William Saliba doesn’t currently have cover, unless Ben White is moved from right-back which causes another issue in itself.

And on the left side, Arsenal perhaps need a full-back and a centre-back, or someone that can do both.

Ajax’s Jorrel Hato recently ruled out a move this summer – stating his desire to win a trophy with his boyhood club.

And in a summer in which Jakub Kiwior could leave Arsenal to return to the Serie A, there could be a bit of movement.

Ideally, Edu will find a versatile left-footed defender, a similar profile to Kiwior but someone who is better technically, and perhaps has a higher ceiling.

Fortunately for Arsenal, it seems as if Nottingham Forest would be willing to sell Brazilian defender Murillo this summer, who definitely fits the bill.

Nottingham Forest expect to sell Murillo for big profit this summer after Arsenal interest

21-year-old Murillo enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign in the Premier League having joined Forest from Corinthians last summer.

The Brazilian played 36 games across all competitions and clearly caught the eye of Arteta, with Arsenal recently showing interest in Murillo.

And despite his good season, The Athletic are now reporting that Forest expect to sell the Brazilian for a big profit this summer to ease their PSR concerns.

Signed for £11m just 10 months ago, Forest believe they can recoup almost six times that sum for the defender today.

As Arsenal may have recognised, it’s rare to find a profile like Murillo’s, such a versatile and confident defender on the ball, who can progress play so well stepping into midfield.

Perhaps the Brazilian reminds Arteta of Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez, a player with a similar tenacity and skill-set.

Martinez ultimately was a player Arsenal were unable to sign despite their interest, now having to watch him at Old Trafford.

But if the club were able to effectively replace Kiwior with Murillo this summer it would be a real upgrade.

That being said, one Arsenal defender is said to be determined to leave the club this month.
