Rich Eisen compares the approaches of Boston Celtics and the ‘all-in’ Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are the only team from their state that hasn’t reached a final in almost thirty years.

After the disappointing loss to the Green Bay Packers in the 2023 playoffs, Jerry Jones spoke publicly at the Senior Bowl that the franchise’s next season would be all-in.

Since then, the offseason has arrived and Dallas has made no move to actually build a squad that is better prepared for a possible NFC Championship.

In the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks are playing the Boston Celtics and so far are losing the series 2-0.

The Celtics in comparison to the Cowboys

The last time Boston was in an NBA final was in the 2021/22 season against the Golden State Warriors. The Celtics were beaten 4-1.

During the following season, the squad made it far, but not to the point of playing in the Finals, which were won by the Denver Nuggets.

Since then, the front office of ‘The Greeen Machine’ has endeavoured to bring in pieces that could strengthen the team to return to the championship finals.

Rich Eisen, in the recent edition of his show, put the situation of the two teams into context and made a sort of allegory between the Celtics and the Cowboys.

Did they (Celtics) say they’re going ‘all-in’ and then do nothing? And say ‘Everybody’s got to come back and win in order to stay here in Boston’, or did they go and get (Kristaps) Porzings and Jrue Holiday and say, ‘We’re gonna remake a little bit, not a little bit but remake significantly with bold faced names surrounding a team that is already the core of a championship’,” noted, and then criticised Dallas’ position. “Are we gonna do that or are we gonna just say we’re going ‘all-in’ and just say ‘We’re going back because this roster, we believe in it, we drafted it, we believe in it’.

Eisen added: “I think this is an allegory for what I thought the Cowboys were gonna do, which is go get themselves the (American) football version of Porzings and the football version of Jrue Holiday and weave it together, and improve a team that had the core and also the roots and branches of a championship team and nurture it.”

Jayson Tatum vs Dak Prescott

The show’s host pointed out the importance, in his opinion, of the fact that the Boston Celtics have tried their best to unload Tatum and have divided the responsibility among the other stars in the squad.

He finished his line of thought by mentioning who he thinks is a better player, Tatum or Dak Prescott.

“They took the pressure off of their Dak (Prescott), who’s Jayson Tatum. Is there a similar conversation about Tatum about Dak? It’s like, you know, he’s great, we know he’s the guy. He’s terrific. I think Tatum is already considered more of a generationally great player than Dak.”
