Ineos blasted and warned not to make ‘one of the worst appointments’ in Manchester United history

Manchester United fans are waiting for a decision from Ineos on the club’s managerial situation.

Supporters at Manchester United have been split over the future of Erik ten Hag, with Ineos examining and deliberating over what to do.

And the longer they take, the more anxious United fans are becoming about the handling of the situation.

United supporters are divided over whether Ten Hag should stay, and if he goes, who should replace him?

One theme which does appear to unite fans, is a dislike of potential managerial candidate Gareth Southgate.

Ineos warned over Gareth Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate has long been touted as a contender for the Manchester United manager position.

He has a long-standing rapport with incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth, and ESPN reported United have considered him as a candidate for the job.

However, United fans are not pleased, and radio presenter Andy Goldstein, who supports the club, has warned he will feel conflicted if the club appoint the England boss.

Goldstein told Talksport that the move would be ‘one of the worst appointments’ in Manchester United’s history.

He explained: “I am telling you now if Southgate becomes the next Man United manager, I will put my support on hold. I can’t tell you how bad a decision that will be.

“I will still support them, I will support them, but that would be one of the worst appointments that club’s ever made. Without any shadow of a doubt.

“He’s not a great manager, is he, Southgate? I want a great manager at Man United. This is no disrespect to Southgate, but I use the same terminology for De Zerbi, for Potter. I am looking for a great.”

Goldstein urged Ineos to make a decision quickly for everybody’s sake, and adds his preference is only to move on from Erik ten Hag if it is a clear upgrade.

Latest Southgate claim

There have been conflicting reports on the manager situation over the past fortnight, with Ineos keeping tight-lipped over their intentions.

A report in The Mirror claims Southgate is out of the running due to the difficult timeframe of appointing him, with Euro 2024 taking place.

The final is held just one day before Manchester United’s first pre-season game, which is impractical on many levels.

This won’t be enough to calm the nerves of United fans who do not want the club to appoint a manager with no proven record of club success. Only when Ineos communicate their decision, will the worries over Southgate subside.
