Report: Manchester United hope to win race for Christian Eriksen's teammate amid Premier League transfer dream

Manchester United already have two Danish players in action at Euro 2024 this summer and are seemingly interested in a signing another.

A host or Manchester United players are away with their countries this summer as they seek international glory.

Ending the campaign with an FA Cup final win was a major boost for United players, who will now be looking to back that up with more success this summer.

Argentina will have two United players in action as Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho chase the Copa America title.

Portugal boast Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes alongside United legend Cristiano Ronaldo and Denmark have a couple of United players in their ranks.

Playmaker Christian Eriksen and striker Rasmus Hojlund are both key players for Denmark and will be lining up against England in the Euro 2024 group stage.

Manchester United want Morten Hjulmand

Eriksen and Hojlund will have support from many United fans and those supporters may even have another name to keep a close eye on this summer.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reported on Friday that United are showing a keen interest in signing Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

The same outlet have now added to that claim by suggesting that United are battling Tottenham Hotspur for Hjulmand.

Correio da Manha’s print edition (10/06, page 33) claims that United and Spurs are ‘counting on’ Hjulmand’s desire to play in the Premier League to help them beat Barcelona to his signature.

Hjulmand is thought to have a release clause worth around €80million (£67million) and Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is desperate to keep him in Lisbon.

It’s unlikely that United would pay £67million for Hjulmand this summer but he one to watch at Euro 2024 as he prepares to link up with Eriksen and Hojlund.

Sporting would no doubt love to hold out for that release clause fee but United may well test the water with a lower offer this summer.

Bruno Fernandes is a huge fan of Hjulmand

Moving from Sporting to Manchester United tends to work out pretty well.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Bruno Fernandes are all fine examples of how the move from Lisbon to Old Trafford can work wonders.

Fernandes joined United in January 2020 but still has one eye on Sporting – and therefore the current heartbeat of their midfield, Hjulmand.

The United skipper has already admitted that he loves watching Hjulmand alongside Sporting midfielder Hidemasa Morita.

“The two in midfield… I love Sporting’s midfield, I love Morita and Hjulmand,” said Fernandes. “They’re two vital players in Sporting’s game, especially when they have to have more of the ball and be more tactically organised,” he added.

Fernandes found a lack of solidify behind him in the United midfield this past season with Casemiro looking like a shadow of his former self.

Hjulmand is a rising player at just 24 and could be the kind of defensive workhorse to star at the base of United’s midfield for years to come.

Linking up with Fernandes should certainly appeal to Hjulmand and United may just hope that Eriksen and Hojlund have a word in his ear this summer as the transfer window looms.
